I wanted to provide an update regarding Violence against women and girls, which members around this area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the Met Engage priority survey. LARKSWOOD, VALLEY AND HALE END AND HIGHAMS PARK VAWG EVENT-
On Wednesday 28th January 2026 PS Helena Besley , PCSO Michelle Cotton, PS Emma Qureshi and the Larkswood local councillor organised a VAWG -Women's Safety meeting at Chingford Mount Library. This had been organised after a number of females raised concern around feeling unsafe in the area. In attendance was PCSO Shashi Tailor, PC Charlotte Mann and PC Kazi Hoq. PS Besley and the local councillors spoke to the residents around the 'Street Safe' app and how to report VAWG related crimes to the police and to the council. They were also given awareness into certain VAWG legislation and how to report this whilst on buses and trains. The women were encouraged and empowered to speak to police and their local council teams and two walk and talk sessions have been arranged.
Whilst the females were leaving the library officers noticed a male trying to enter and speak to some of the women, as officers approached the male PC Hoq quickly recognised that this male was wanted for a breach of tag on the Hale End Ward. This male is also a VAWG nominal as he is known to the Hale End officers for harassing females in TESCO, HIGHAMS PARK. The male was arrested and taken to custody.
